How to Handle the Millicent Quest in Elden Ring

The Millicent quest takes you through Elden Ring and culminates in a unique ending.

Intro:

The Elden Ring Millicent quest will take you on a journey that will take you across the entire Lands Between. It also delves into one of Elden Ring’s most vexing mysteries: the nature of the Scarlet Rot and Melania and you will find who they are?

Because the quest runs concurrently with your progress through the main game, it takes a long time to complete. It also necessitates the defeat of several bosses, but completing her quest is the only way to unlock the other game’s endings after receiving the Frenzied Flame.

Beginning of Millicent Quest in Elden Ring

Millicent’s quest begins in Caelid, at Gowry’s Shack, so you’ll be able to start it right away. However, subsequent steps require you to explore deeper into the game, so don’t expect to finish this right away unless you’ve already completed a significant portion of the story. Be aware of spoilers ahead, as is customary with these types of guides. Here’s how to finish the Elden Ring Millicent quest if you’re ready to get started.

But first, let’s find the answer.

Who was Millicent Elden Ring?

Millicent is a non-player character in Elden Ring. A woman who has been affected by Melania the Severed’s Scarlet Rot and has lost an arm as a result.

Gowry requests that the player locate a magical Unalloyed Gold Needle for her to treat her illness symptoms. She will be able to move again and will give the player the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom if this is done.

She goes to Gowry’s Shack first, then to the Altus Plateau, where she will stay at the Erdtree-Gazing Hill grace until the player gives her a Valkyrie’s Prosthesis, which can be found in The Shaded Castle. You can summon her to fight Magma Wyrm Makar even if you haven’t given her the prosthesis yet.

Her final encounter on the Altus Plateau will take place at the Windmill Heights grace, from which she will set out on her journey to Miquella’s Haligtree.

She then moves to the Prayer Room in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, after which she is found at the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins grace on the Mountaintops of the Giants.

You can find two summon signs for her quest where you fought the nearby Ulcerated Tree Spirit after defeating it. After that, you must choose whether to fight alongside Millicent or against her in a scripted invasion.

Millicent will take out the Unalloyed Gold Needle if you help her defeat her four sisters, claiming she would rather die than spread the scarlet rot. After reloading/resting, you can pick up the needle from where you left it. You’ll also get the talisman Rotten Winged Sword Insignia.

FAQ about How to Handle the Millicent Quest in Elden Ring

How to use Miquella’s Needle to tame the Flame of Frenzy

Even though the quest has an end, the effects of the quest last until the end of Elden Ring. It’s the only way to get rid of your character’s Flame of Frenzy mark and unlock the option to choose any ending.

  1. Help Millicent defeat her sisters to obtain the Unalloyed Gold Needle.
  2. Defeat Melania, then reload the boss room and use the needle on the Scarlet Bloom who has appeared to accept Miquella’s Needle.
  3. Find the Dragonlord Placudisax boss in Farum Azula and use the needle in the boss arena. You don’t have to fight the boss to use it, unlike Melania. Simply choose the needle from your inventory.

Where to find Gowry’s Shack

Gowry’s Shack is located in Caelid’s southern region, just south of Sellia, the Town of Sorcery. If you haven’t visited this area before, the easiest way to get here is to travel southwest to the Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank Site of Grace. When you arrive, speak with Gowry inside the wooden hut. He’ll tell you that he wants to heal a girl, but first, he needs you to locate the Unalloyed Gold Needle.

How to get the Unalloyed Gold Needle

This item is dropped by Commander O’Neil, a boss found in the nearby Aeonia Swamp. He’s in the circle of trees on the swamp’s eastern edge, but it’s worth grabbing the Inner Aeonia Site of Grace to the north so you can spawn right next to the boss arena if he causes you any trouble.

Commander O’Neil isn’t particularly tough, but he can summon assistance, which can prolong the fight. It’s also possible to fight him while riding Torrent, which can be beneficial. You can engage the boss and then lead him back to the Inner Aeonia Site of Grace if you have trouble taking him down. The Scarlot Rot geysers here deal a fair amount of damage to him, so kite him into them to quickly deplete his health.

Return to Gowry’s Shack once you have the Unalloyed Gold Needle in your possession and hand it over. Gowry will give you Sellia’s Secret right away in exchange, but you must fast travel away or reload the game to continue the quest. Gowry will return the repaired needle to you once you’ve returned.

How to get to the Church of the Plague

Then you must travel to the Church of the Plague, which is located just east of Gowry’s Shack but near the cliff’s edge.

Gowry told you the secret of Sellia when you gave him the Unalloyed Gold Needle in the previous step, allowing you to access the road from this site. You can either light the beacons in the village to gain access or use Torrent to run down from the Bestial Sanctum in the north to the location. The sanctum is accessible through a waygate near the Third Church of Marika in Limgrave (D in Roundtable Hold informs you of this after you obtain your first Deathroot(opens in new tab)).

Millicent is discovered inside the ruins of the Plague Church. Return the needle and take a break at the nearby Site of Grace. Continue speaking with her until you receive the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom talisman.

Return to Gowry’s Shack at this time. Speak with Gowry, then either reload the game or fast travel to the nearest Site of Grace and return to his shack. Millicent should have arrived by now. Speak with her and exhaust all of her conversation options.

Find Millicent at Altus Plateau

Millicent will not be found again until you reach Altus Plateau in Liurnia’s northeast, just past the Grand Lift of Dectus(opens in new tab). You’ll find her just north of the Erdtree Gazing Hill Site of Grace, but you won’t be able to continue her quest until you find the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis item in a chest in the Shaded Castle area of northern Altus Plateau.

The Valkyrie’s Prosthesis is located in the Shaded Castle, and you must fight or run past a Cleanrot Knight to gain access to the room where it is kept.

Return to Millicent in Altus Plateau once you have the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis and hand it over. You must now converse with her until you run out of new material.

Defeat the Godskin Apostle at Windmill Village

Now you must travel to Windmill Village in the Altus Plateau’s northwestern corner. After you’ve activated the Windmill Village Site of Grace, head up the narrow area of land to the east to find the Godskin Apostle boss near a windmill at the top.

This boss is quite difficult, and you should expect to dodge quite a bit. Multi-hit magic damage appears to break his poise, and he appears to be bleed-prone. It’s best to play it safe and dodge until you’ve figured out his attack patterns and the tells for his more devastating attacks, as with most bosses.

Activate the Windmill Heights Site of Grace after you’ve defeated the boss. Millicent will be standing nearby if you take a break or travel quickly away and back. Continue to exhaust her dialogue.

Talk to Millicent at Mountaintop of the Giants

Millicent will not appear again until you reach the Mountaintop of the Giants region, northeast of Lyndell, Royal Capital (you need to defeat the boss there to access it). She can be found to the south of Castle Sol and the southeast of Stargazer’s Ruins, at the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace.

If you talk to her here, she’ll tell you that you can call her in battle. She also mentions finding MalMelaniad the Haligtree Secret Medallion, which unlocks a secret location at Rold’s Brand Lift. Check out our Haligtree Medallion guide for information on how to get to Miquella’s Haligtree endgame area (opens in a new tab).

Return to Gowry’s Shack in Caelid at this point to speak with him about Millicent. He has a lot to say, but none of it is necessary for you to progress through the quest.

Meet Millicent at Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree

You must carefully make your way down the tree branches once you have gained access to Miquella’s Haligtree, fighting giant ants and poor Albinaurics along the way. It’s a tricky area for melee characters, so I’d recommend bringing a ranged attack to avoid rolling off the tree and dying.

You’ll eventually start running into buildings near the tree’s trunk. Continue onwards through the enemies until you reach Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree, the final boss. After you’ve taken her down, continue to Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.

Continue until you reach the Site of Grace Prayer Room. Talk to Millicent if she’s nearby, and she’ll tell you about Melania.

Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit mini-boss

Continue through Elphael, Haligtree’s Brace. As you descend deeper into the area, you’ll encounter a slew of enemies. Continue on er passing through the Elphael Inner Wall Site of Grace until you reach the Drainage Channel Site of Grace, which is located after a series of icky Scarlet Rot pools.

There’s more Scarlet Rot past the Drainage Channel, but this time an Ulcerated Tree Spirit is lurking in one of the trees you’ll have to drop down to. To continue Millicent’s quest, you must defeat this Ulcerated Tree Spirit, as disgusting as it is.

Millicent’s choice at Raphael, Brace of the Haligtree

Return to Grace’s Drainage Channel Site. Return to the boss area and look for two summon signs where you’ll be given a choice similar to the Sellen quest(opens in a new tab). You’ll be summoned to Millicent by the yellow summon sign to assist her in defeating NPC invaders. You can invade and kill her by using the red summon sign.

You’ll have to fight Millicent if you choose the red summon sign. If you defeat her, you’ll receive Millicent’s Prosthesis(opens in a new tab) and the quest will be completed sooner. You will not be able to continue past this point if you do this.

The Rotten Winged Sword Insignia(opens in new tab) is a talisman that greatly increases attack power with subsequent hits if you follow the yellow summon sign and help her kill the NPCs.

You can either reload the game and find Millicent near the summoning signs, or you can rest at the Drainage Channel Site of Grace once more. You’ll return to find her body if you talk to her, then rest or reload. You can loot her for the Unalloyed Gold Needle, which you can use to get Miquella’s Needle for one of the Elden Ring endings (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab).

Undoing the Frenzied Flame ending with Miquella’s Needle

If you chose the Flame of Frenzy ending, Miquella’s Needle has the unique ability to reverse it. As a reminder, that’s beneath Lyndell, Royal Capital, past Mohg’s boss room, and through a series of tunnels. There’s a big door inside that requires you to remove your armor to enter. You’ll be marked by the Flame of Frenzy and have yellow eyes once you’ve done so.

If you continue without completing Millicent’s questline, you’ll be stuck with this ending. However, if you complete her quest, you can undo the Flame of Frenzy.

Tame the Flame of Frenzy with Miquella’s Needle

Take Miquella’s Needle to the boss room for Dragonlord Placidusax to undo the lock on your character for the Flame of Frenzy ends.

The Dragonlord can be found in Farum Azula, which is only fully accessible after you’ve completed the Mountaintops of the Giants and interacted with the Forge of the Giants. Once there, proceed normally until you reach the Grace Site besides the Great Bridge. From there, take the nearby elevator, the stairwell, past the beastmen, and out the front door. Walk straight out as if you’re walking off the map, then look down to see a rocky path below you. Drop to the ground and run toward the tornado until you reach the building fragment. Interact with the empty part of it to start a cutscene that will take you to the boss room.

To tame the Flame of Frenzy, equip Miquella’s Needle or use it in your menu in the boss room and select yes. You can now proceed normally with the game without being locked into that ending, and you’ll have saved Melina in the process.

Relation of Millicent with Melania in Elden Ring

Millicent isMelania’ss daughter as well as an extension of her. This is why her invader version uses the same Waterfowl Dance as Melania and why, after being betrayed by Elden Ring’s Tarnished protagonist, she blossoms into a Scarlet Rot flower. Millicent’s relationship with Melania, on the other hand, shows that she lost her arm because she grew in the same pattern as Elden Ring’s Goddess of Rot.

Helping Millicent in Elden Ring

If the player chooses to assist Millicent, she can be found near her summoning sign, laying by the pool of scarlet rot below. Reload the area after exhausting all of her dialogue. When you interact with her again, she will give you the Unalloyed Gold Needle, completing her quest.

Ending of Millicent in Elden Ring

The use of floral imagery strengthens the connections. Melania, the Goddess of Rot, and her colossal scarlet flowers, Millicent. Millicent, on the other hand, does not have a happy ending. If players choose to assist her, they will find her dying by the side of a pool near where her summoning sign used to be at the end of her questline.

Saving  Millicent in Elden Ring

You’ll find her just north of the Erdtree Gazing Hill Site of Grace, but you won’t be able to continue her quest until you find the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis item in a chest in the Shaded Castle area of northern Altus Plateau.

Where does Millicent go after the church of plague?

Millicent will not appear again until you reach the Mountaintop of the Giants region, northeast of Lyndell, Royal Capital (you need to defeat the boss there to access it). She can be found to the south of Castle Sol and the southeast of Stargazer’s Ruins, at the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace.

Should I give Millicent the needle?

You’ll get the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia and the Unalloyed Gold Needle if you help Millicent. The needle is crucial because it unlocks a different ending if you use it later on, but this ending will not strengthen your build.

Should I help Millicent?

Millicent will be dead by the time you arrive if you betray him. However, if you choose to help Millicent, Gowry will still be alive in his shack when you arrive, even though he appears to have lost his mind. You have no choice but to kill him to obtain the Flock’s Canvas Talisman item.

How do I get Millicent’s prosthesis?

Millicent’s Prosthesis can be obtained by killing Millicent after killing the Godskin Apostle at the Windmill Heights Site of Grace. This is the earliest it will be available.

How do you cure Millicent?

Speak with her and hand over the unalloyed gold needle to her. Reload the area after you’ve finished with her dialogue. She will give you the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom if you speak to her again. Millicent is now completely healed and in good health.
